11-year-old boy seriously injured in hit-and-run on Long Island

A female driver in a pick-up truck struck an 11-year-old boy on a scooter on Long Island — then fled, leaving the seriously injured child in the street, police said Monday.

The hit-and-run suspect was in an older model, two-door, red pick-up when she struck the victim around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Massapequa in Nassau County, authorities said.

The child was on Eastgate Road when he was hit, suffering “multiple serious injuries,’’ they said. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and is in stable condition, cops said.

Authorities are looking for the driver, whose pick-up was last seen heading north on Eastgate Road. Photos of her pick-up were released to the press.

Cops are asking anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call the county police department’s Seventh Squad at 516-573-6753. All calls will remain anonymous.
