TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was killed Tuesday night after Tarpon Springs police said he ran across U.S. 19 and was hit by two cars.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Tarpon Avenue, according to the Tarpon Springs Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a vehicle accident and discovered Brandon Posey, 41, from New Port Richey, deceased in the northbound lanes of U.S. 19.

Investigators revealed that Posey had exited a vehicle parked in the southbound lanes of U.S. 19 and attempted to run eastward across the highway.

“It does not appear that he was in the crosswalk and northbound U.S. 19 had a green light,” a news release from the police department said.

A northbound black BMW struck Posey, knocking him to the ground, police stated. Subsequently, a grey Ford SUV ran over Posey, as per investigators’ findings.

Detectives said both drivers stopped and are cooperating with the investigation. Police do not believe impairment was a factor.

Traffic from Tarpon Avenue was being diverted while police investigated Tuesday night. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

Authorities urge anyone who was present during the incident or who may have dashcam footage to contact Lead Traffic Homicide Investigator L. Palmer at 727-938-2849.
