AMD has announced that its FSR 4 AI upscaling and frame-generation technology can now be activated for “most games that support FSR 3.1 with DirectX 12,” as detailed in the release notes for their latest 25.9.1 driver. This capability has been eagerly anticipated by AMD users, but it took some time to become available. FSR 4 was initially released in conjunction with the company’s RX 9000-series graphics cards in March.

AMD positions FSR 4 as a direct rival to Nvidia’s DLSS 4 and describes it as a “major advancement” over FSR 3. With the use of machine learning algorithms, FSR 4 can accurately anticipate and restore missing pixels in lower-resolution rendering, delivering high performance and clear, high-definition visuals comparable to native resolution, according to AMD.

The updated driver officially extends FSR 4 support to over 85 games. For those using FSR 3.1, you can enable FSR 4 by adjusting a setting in the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition app. “This final adjustment enables the driver to replace the FSR 3.1 game setup with the newest FSR 4 version,” AMD explains.
