Manchester United teenager Facundo Pellistri staked his claim for a regular spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad today with a fine goal against Derby County in a pre-season friendly.

The Uruguayan joined the Red Devils on deadline day last October and is yet to make his first team debut for the club.

The 19-year-old was sent out on loan to Alaves in January, where he made 12 appearances for the club without scoring.

United are expected to send Pellistri out on loan again next season, with clubs in the Championship reportedly interested.

But Pellistri is doing everything he can to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he did exactly that on United’s first game of pre-season today when he scored against Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.

Tahith Chong gave United the lead in the first half and Pellistri came on at the interval as Solskjaer made a raft of changes.

Another change was Shola Shoretire and the United teenager showed his creativity by finding Pellistri with an accurate through ball and the Uruguayan rounded the ‘keeper to tap into an empty net.

Most of United’s squad are still on their holidays after being given three weeks off after the European Championships.

However, Solskjaer was able to call upon the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Mason Greenwood at Pride Park.
