Michel François Platini Wiki Biography

Michel François Platini was born on 21 June 1955, in Jœuf, France, to Anna and Aldo Platini, of part-Italian descent. He is a French former soccer player, coach, manager and now administrator, nominated as one of the greatest football players ever, playing for Nancy, Saint-Etienne and Juventus, as well as for the French national team.

So just how wealthy is Michel Platini? According to sources in mid-2017, Platini has accumulated a net worth of over $15 million, acquired during his career as a football player, but also through his career as a football coach and through his involvement in football management and administration.

Michel Platini Net Worth $15 million

Following the steps of his father who was a professional soccer player and director of Nancy, Platini began his football career during his teenage years, playing for the AS Joeuf youth team from the age of 11. In 1972 he turned pro, joining Nancy and soon becoming the team’s most valuable player. His net worth was at its start. After capturing the Ligue 2 championship title in 1975, he led his team to win the French Cup final against Nice in 1978, collecting a large fan base.

After his contract with Nancy expired in 1979, Platini joined Saint-Étienne, remaining with the team for the next three years and winning the French Championship in 1981, while also being a two-time finalist in the French Cup. His tenure with Saint-Étienne reinforced Platini’s reputation as a player with great capabilities, significantly contributing to his wealth as well.

In 1982 he joined Italian club Juventus of Turin, reaching the European Cup final, and then winning the Italian Cup in his first season with the team, which earned him his first Ballon d’Or Award. The following two seasons brought him two more Ballon d’Or Awards, and boosted his popularity. After helping his team to capture the 1984 Serie A title, his brilliant performances led Juventus to win the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the 1984 European Super Cup the same year. Next they captured the European Cup and the Intercontinental Cup in 1985, and another Serie A title in the following year, with Platini being top scorer in Serie A for three straight seasons, receiving several awards and honors. All added to his net worth.

When it comes to his international career, Platini played for the French national team from 1975 to 1987. He helped his country to reach the quarterfinals at the Olympics in 1976, and after leading his team to the semifinals of the 1982 World Cup, they took the 1984 European Championship title, with Platini being the top scorer with nine goals. They also reached the semi-finals of the 1986 World Cup. His international career earned him additional praise and several honors, including three European Golden Balls. It also significantly increased his wealth.

Following the end of his contract with Juventus in 1987, Platini retired from professional football, having collected 312 goals in 580 career club matches and setting a record with 41 goals over 79 international appearances for France. His long successful career has enabled him to achieve worldwide fame and to amass a significant net worth.

Platini’s retirement did not, however, mean the end of his involvement in football. In 1988 he became coach of the French national team, which he held until 1992. Meanwhile, he also pursued a career in football administration, serving as a member of the UEFA Technical Development Committee. He was then co-president of the FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee for the 1998 World Cup in France. In 2002 he became a member of the UEFA Executive Committee and European member of the FIFA Executive Committee, plus taking the position of chairman of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee, as well as vice-president of the French Football Federation in 2006. The following year he became president of the UEFA, notionally holding the position until 2016. However, he became involved in a FIFA corruption scandal in 2015, and was subsequently banned from involvement in soccer for eight years.

In his personal life, Platini has been married to Chritelle Bigoni since 1977. They have two children together.
