Andre Leon Talley Net Worth $1.5 million

Born in Washington, D.C., Talley is the son of William C. Talley, a taxi driver, and Alma Ruth Davis, a homemaker. During his younger years, he was left under the care of his grandmother, Bernie Davis, who used to clean homes.

Talley attended Hillside High School, and it was at this time that he discovered his love for fashion. The women that he saw every Sunday at church and his grandmother became his earliest fashion icons. Later on as a teen, he would visit a local library where he would read Vogue magazines. After graduating from high school in 1966, he went on to attend North Carolina Central University graduating with a degree in French Literature. He also earned a full scholarship at Brown University where he continued his education and pursued a master’s degree in French Studies.

Talley originally planned to be French teacher, but in 1974 he was able to land a job under artist Andy Warhol in New York City. Aside from being his assistant, he also worked for the magazine Interview. While working with Warhol, he also spent time volunteering with fashion icon Diana Vreeland, who was working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art during that time. His first jobs introduced him into the world of fashion, and helped start his net worth.

After leaving Warhol, Talley worked for various publications like Women’s Wear Daily, W, and the New York Times. Finally in 1983, he was able to land a job at Vogue where he started as a Fashion News Director. After five years, he moved to become the magazine’s Creative Director. During this time, he used his influence in the fashion industry to help people of color to have a chance in the fashion industry, and became known for helping designers and models of color to be recognized in the world of fashion.

In 1995, Talley left Vogue and decided to relocate to Paris to work for W magazine. He only stayed for three years, and then returned to the United States to work again for Vogue, this time as it’s editor-at-large, a position he held for 15 years until he left in 2013. It was his time in Vogue that made him a fashion icon, and tremendously increased his net worth.

After leaving Vogue, Talley worked for a while with Numero Russia for a year, and later on served as a judge in the realty competition “America’s Next Top Model” for four seasons. He has also authored two books, entitled “A.L.T.: A Memoir” published in 2003 and “A.L.T. 365+” published in 2005. His other endeavours also helped in his wealth.

In terms of his personal life, Talley is openly gay, and apparently single. He currently serves at the Savannah College of Art and Design as one of its Board of Trustees.
