McKayla Rose Maroney (born December 9, 1995) is a professional artistic gymnast from the United States. She is a vaulting and floor exercise expert with extensive experience. During the 2011 World Championships, she took home gold medals in both the team event and the vault event. A part of the gold-medal winning United States women’s gymnastics team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, she was also a silver medallist on the vault at the 2012 Summer Olympics. On vault, she successfully defended her World championship and won the gold medal, becoming the first female gymnast in history to do it, as well as the first American to do so since 1992. A picture of her wearing a “not impressed” face after winning silver at the 2012 Olympics went viral on the internet and became a viral internet meme.
