An Alabama man has been jailed on charges of sexually abusing a child under 12 years old dating back to 2013.

Tomas Juan Francisco, 47, is being held at the DeKalb County Detention Center in northeastern Alabama on a $2 million bond, AL.com reported.

The sheriff’s office said Francisco may face more charges.

“I can’t stress enough how important it is that we protect our children from predators,” Sheriff Nick Welden said. “I wish there was a way we could prevent this sort of thing from happening to any child, but our job is to pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

Court documents alleged that Fernando sexually abused a child beginning when the child was 10-year-old.

“The only way to prevent these types of crimes is at the family level,” Welden said. “Please pay attention to who your younger family members are around and what their intentions might be.
