Chun Doo-hwan was born on March 6, 1931, in a poor farming town in Kosen, South Korea. He is the fourth of ten children born to his parents.

Chun was married to Lee Soon Ja in 1958 who gave up her dream to become a doctor to marry the ex-military commander. The pair were blessed with four kids.

Chun Doo-hwan was a former president of South Korea for eight years. Before becoming a president, Chun Doo-hwan was appointed a commander in 1979 by working his way up the ranks. He joined the military right after high school.

Taking advantage of his position, Chun Doo-hwan gathered his military allies and gained control of South Korea’s intelligence agencies, and lead the coup on December,12.

Though Chun Doo-hwan escaped death when he was accused and sentenced to death in 1996 because of his role in the Gwangju Massacre when president Kin Young-sam pardoned him, he died on November 23, 2021.

Chun Doo-hwan died of a relapse of myeloma, complications of blood cancer in the morning of November 23, 2021, at the age of 90.
