Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, were a little skeptical when they learned that many of the primary characters from the movies would be starring in television shows.

People were uncertain if those characters were being used to sell Disney Plus subscriptions or if these would be great series for binging. With several of the shows now released, including WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Loki, the consensus is very positive.

Loki is the latest Marvel show to release on Disney Plus, and it is the one getting the most praise from fans and critics.

Below is an analysis of what Marvel got right with Loki on Disney Plus and what fans can expect from future seasons.

Loki Loves His Family

Many people who tune into the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and television shows love a character like Loki because he is a bad boy. Despite the countless chances to do good, he never misses an opportunity to create mischief wherever he goes.

Loki, however, does care about those close to him. The God of Mischief truly loves his family, especially his mother Frigga and his brother Thor. Even though his interactions with either are at a bare minimum in the Disney Plus show, his words and actions demonstrate that his family is very much on his mind.

A character such as Loki is at his best when the audience sees his humility. Despite being all-powerful and able to squeeze out of the most improbable of troubles, Loki has to confront his demons and think about the way he has treated those who were closest to him in the past.

Loki is Bisexual

The Marvel films and shows rarely get explicit when discussing sexuality, while the recent movie Eternals is the first time the MCU featured a sex scene on screen.

While there are no explicit scenes in Loki, there is a direct reference to Loki being bisexual. As the character talks with Sylvie in one of the episodes, Loki confides that he has engaged in sexual relationships with both men and women.

Loki’s sexuality is not central to the character, but the MCU not being afraid to show its characters as being LGBTQ is a positive in many people’s eyes. And if there is one character who is the likeliest to come out as bisexual, fans always felt that Loki was the ideal choice.

Some fans had concerns that Marvel would take a misstep with such a revelation in the show, but the scene progressed masterfully and felt organic. Loki’s sexuality did not feel like a plot point added to tick off a diversity quota.

Loki Displays Self Growth

There is always a debate about whether titular characters from the MCU deserve more movies to shine or whether they are better off getting to anchor their own television shows. Even though movies are where the big money lies, and more people go to watch them around the world, television shows offer more time.

The Loki television series on Disney Plus consists of six episodes, with each being nearly an hour long. Such a runtime is worthy of two or three movies, with Loki being in most of the scenes. Having that much screen time means that we get to see and hear from the character a lot more.

Such a long screen time is not always good, but the Loki TV show on Disney Plus makes it worthwhile. Loki has close relationships with many of the side characters, including Sylvie and Mobius M. Mobius. These relationships show Loki at both his best and worst, but he does display growth as the series progresses.

Loki Opens up the Door to the Multiverse

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has achieved the success that most franchises can only dream of accomplishing. Not only do they have some best-received films from critics, but they are mega money makers around the world.

Films such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are blockbuster sensations that may never be repeated. Those films felt like significant events, as fans around the world went to theaters during the opening weekend to catch the latest installment of their favorite franchise.

When films go so big, as the Avengers movies did in Infinity War and Endgame, the next step has to be something even greater. That is where the multiverse comes into the equation.

Rather than having characters focusing on a single universe, Marvel is aiming to showcase a multiverse in the coming movies and television shows. The door is open through the events of WandaVision and now Loki. Recent trailers for Spider-Man: No Way Home also indicate that villains from other universes may be playing a significant role in the events of the movie, while there is speculation about Spider-Men from older movies also having scenes.

Loki tackles concepts such as the “Sacred Timeline” and free will with aplomb. The show is an outstanding introduction to the idea of the multiverse within the MCU, and this is a concept that Marvel is likely to explore in future films as well.

Fans Are in for A Treat

MCU fans may have been hesitant when they first learned that beloved main characters and side characters from the movies were transitioning to television shows.

Some felt overwhelmed at having to keep up with both movies and TV shows to know what was happening within the MCU, while others worried those characters would not get as much screen time in future movies.

While some concerns are still up in the air, the recently released MCU shows on Disney Plus show that Marvel has not lost its touch. This is one of the best television series to release in 2021 and sets up Thor’s infamous brother Loki for some of the most entertaining and enthralling adventures to date.

Marvel gets a lot correct with Loki on Disney Plus, which we outline above, and fans can most definitely look forward to a second season in the coming years.
