Before his untimely demise in 2009, STEPHEN Gately was the fifth member of the Irish boy band Boyzone.
Stephen Patrick David Gately was an Irish pop singer-songwriter, actor, children’s book author, and dancer who co-founded Boyzone with Ronan Keating.
During Gately’s lifetime, all of Boyzone’s studio albums charted at number one in the United Kingdom, with their third album being their most successful abroad.
Gately had a record-breaking sixteen singles in the top five of the UK Singles Chart with Boyzone. Stephen performed in front of millions of people all around the world.
Gately starred in several stage performances and television shows and contributed songs to several projects.
Boyzone regrouped in 2008, and he reunited with his former bandmates for a series of gigs and albums.

Stephen Gately died at 33 years of age on October 10, 2009. While on vacation at Port D’Andratx, Majorca, he died unexpectedly in the early hours of the morning.

Andrew Cowles, his husband since 2003, was the one who discovered his body. In addition, Gerald Kean, Stephen’s friend, and Solicitor described his death as a “tragic accident” at the time of his death.
Any evidence of drug misuse or suicide was ruled out, and no signs of violence were detected on Stephen’s body.
Stephen died of pulmonary oedema (fluid in the lungs) due to an untreated congenital heart problem, which was subsequently discovered.
Jan Moir’s story in the Daily Mail, in which she stated he died due to a “dangerous lifestyle,” drew widespread condemnation.
What Happened To Stephen Gately?
Gately died in 2009 in a flat he and Cowles owned in Mallorca, Spain, of a congenital heart problem.
When Gately’s body was discovered on Saturday, he was on vacation with Andrew Cowles.
On Sunday, the news was revealed on Boyzone’s official website. Boyzone’s other members were thought to be on their way to the same island on Sunday when his death was discovered.

According to Dan Wootton, showbiz editor of the British tabloid News of the World, the singer had gone out for drinks, returned, fell asleep, and never awoke.
According to Spanish authorities, his body was discovered on a sofa in the lounge.
How Did Stephen Gately Die In His Husband Arms?
On October 10, 2009, the beloved Boyzone star died in his husband’s arms after a night out in Majorca at 33.
He and his partner Andrew Cowles had been looking forward to a month-long visit at their £1 million villas in the affluent enclave of Puerto Andratx, fresh off the heels of a Boyzone tour.

Instead, after an undiagnosed cardiac ailment called atheromatosis – a hardening of the arteries – caused his lungs to fill with fluid abruptly, the singer went to sleep and never woke up.
Stephen soon fell asleep on the sofa with Andrew’s arm over his shoulders.
Andrew hugged him for three hours before sleeping in their bed, where Georgi claimed they were intimate, not aware he had died.
He broke down in sobs when he realized he was dead. He then tried to resuscitate him by giving him mouth-to-mouth but could not help him either way.
