An Illinois man was arrested on Friday and charged with trapping a woman in a home and beating her for several days.

The McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office said that dispatchers sent Bloomington police to the scene, where they found the victim with multiple cuts and bruises, severe burns and head and wrist injuries consistent with being strangled and restrained, the Pantagraph reported.

Police also said the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Meontay D. Wheeler, had apparently pulled large chunks of hair from the victim’s head.

The State’s Attorney’s Office arrest statement said that Wheeler was angry with the victim over a pending domestic battery case and was demanding she recant. The report said Wheeler would not allow the victim to eat and gave her water twice during the ordeal.

Wheeler was charged with aggravated battery inflicting great bodily harm, torture, aggravated battery, and aggravated domestic battery involving strangulation. He’s being held on a $1 million bond.
