Early life and education

Dexter grew up in a rather large family, as he has five siblings – he always wanted to be entertained, and was the most energetic one among them. Not a lot is known about his parents except that both his mother and father were very sporting during their teen years.

Dexter has been physically active since he started attending elementary school. He became part of the football team once he entered high school, and was one of the best running backs – his 40m run of 4.20 seconds was one of the best times in the whole country. While he was mostly focused on football, he was also doing gymnastics and break dancing, and was into martial arts – he holds the fourth degree black belt in karate.

Dexter’s life took a turn once his girlfriend became pregnant, and although he was planning on attending college, he chose to work so that he could financially support her and their daughter.

Career of a bodybuilder and other jobs

Dexter started off as a cook, juggling between three things – working as a cook, spending time with his family, and exercising at the gym. As his physique was already impressive, his friends encouraged him to try and enter a local bodybuilding contest, which was small but still notable – Dexter started working out harder just so he wouldn’t disappoint his friends.

It appeared easy for Dexter to win the contest as it was a unanimous vote – it was all the motivation he needed to start pursuing his career of a professional bodybuilder. His first ‘important’ competition was the 1992 NPC Southern States Championship, at which he won third place – it was the first time he didn’t win the show, which made him push his limits and train even harder. He took three years to work on his body, coming back in 1995 and winning the NPC USA Championships in the Light-Heavyweight category – the victory granted him a Pro Card, meaning that he could now compete at the IFBB Pro League.

Although he finished sixth at his first professional contest, he came back to it two years later in 1998 and won. Since then, Dexter has been entering numerous bodybuilding championships and has come out as a winner in nearly half of them – some of his most notable victories include the 2002 Grand Prix England, 2004 Ironman Pro Invitational, 2008 Mr. Olympia, and the latest 2019 Tampa Pro, at the age of almost 50!

  • Second place goes to Lou Ferrigno who is an actor, fitness trainer, and a bodybuilder – he has won IFBB Mr. America and IFBB. Mr. Universe two times in a row, and is the star of the “Pumping Iron” documentary movie;
  • Top place is held by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is mostly popular for his acting career and his starring role in the “Terminator” movie franchise – he is also a model, producer, director, activist, businessman, investor, writer, politician and a philanthropist.

Even though Dexter is a well-built bodybuilder, as yet he is nowhere to be found in the list of the most popular male bodybuilders in the world compiled by the Ranker website.

Dexter’s workout and diet plans

Even though Dexter seems to be doing extremely hard and complicated workouts to maintain his figure, he prefers to keep his exercising philosophy as simple as he can, and believes that compound movements should be the main part of all workouts (barbell bench press, squats). Dexter is on a balanced diet, and is very precise when it comes to his intake of lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbs. He believes that a cheat meal is something everyone should have, as it is very important for the body – some of his favorite foods include steak and chicken as these are his main sources of protein. Other foods he eats include eggs, rice, vegetables and fruits – the supplements he uses include whey protein, creatine, and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs).

Love life and relationships

Dexter is somewhat secretive when it comes to his love life, as he hasn’t shared much about his past and present relationships with the public.

Dexter met his former wife Carol during his high school years – the two were inseparable and although they both wanted to go to college, Carol became pregnant during their senior year and they both gave up on pursuing their college degrees. Dexter might appear to be completely focused on his training sessions at the gym and his career of a competitive bodybuilder, but he has numerous other interests, too. Dexter is very passionate about cars, and has bought and sold a number of them throughout the years – he prefers muscle cars over all others, with the Shelby GT500 being his favorite.

He enjoys watching movies, while his favorites are those featuring fighting – some of his favorite actors include Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan while he also likes Arnold Schwarzenegger. He loves to travel, and his favorite kind of transportation is by water – he has his own yacht, which has a gym equipped with everything he needs for a proper training. Dexter has travelled all around the world in his yacht throughout the years.

Dexter is currently 49 years old. He has short black hair and brown eyes, is 5ft 6ins (1.68m) tall, and weighs as much as 235lb (107kg), depending on whether or not he is competing.
