Detroit police have arrested two teens in connection with the triple murder of a 28-year-old woman, her 5-year-old son, and 32-year-old boyfriend.

Lashon Marshall, her son Caleb Harris, and Aaron Benson were found shot to death in their west Detroit apartment on Sunday when family members went to investigate why they hadn’t heard from them, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis said the 16- and 17-year-old boys were arrested on Monday and that tips from the public helped investigators find them, WJBK reported.

“There is high confidence that the individuals we have taken into custody are responsible for this heinous act,” said McGinnis.

Police said that Marshall and Benson knew the boys, but investigators have not yet determined a motive for the murders.

Marshall’s sister, Chanel Marshall-Sewell, told WJBK that Marshall was the youngest of nine siblings, grew up in foster care, and had spent her 20s advocating toward an end to poverty, including traveling to Washington, D.C., multiple times to speak with members of Congress.

“She grew up in foster care and she got involved in doing that because that’s where her heart was at,” Marshall-Sewell said.

Caleb would have turned 6 next week, she said, and she had words for the two suspects.

“You’re a coward because you stole a kid’s life,” Sewell said. “He didn’t even get to live to see 6. You stole everything from him and his mom.”

The deaths of Marshall, her son, and her boyfriend aren’t the only tragedies the family has faced recently. The family matriarch, Yvette Sewell, was gunned down on her front porch last October. The killer has not been found.
