Two years following his first appearance in the entertainment industry, Ryan secured his first recurring role, as Blake Kellogg in the TV romantic comedy series “The Mommies”, which he portrayed for two years. In 1996 Ryan was chosen for the part of young Jarod in the TV drama sci-fi mystery series “The Pretender”, appearing in 50 episodes in four years, but meantime featuring in other projects, including the television films “What’s Right with America” (1997), “Night Ride Home” and “Smart House” both in 1999. Ryan continued to build-up his career with the start of the 2000s, moving forward with a co-starring role in the television film “Rocket’s Red Glare”, and then the lead role in the comedy-drama film “The Luck of the Irish” in 2001. The following years he was Myles Barton in the horror film “Halloween: Resurrection”, while in 2005 he was Jake in the horror film “The Ring Two”, starring Naomi Watts, David Dorfman and Sissy Spacek. Having seen that roles in horror films suited him, he starred in another horror “Final Destination 3” in 2006, and then “Backwoods” in 2008.

King and Harrison Ford, which was a complete success, launching Ryan to stardom. Since then, he has featured in a number of films, though only a few made an impact on his career. He starred in the sci-fi drama film “Domain” in 2017, and in the comedy series “In the Rough”.
