Arsenal are making ‘very serious efforts’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, according to reports in Germany.

Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his attacking options in the summer transfer window and is targeting at least two new strikers.

But according to SportBILD, Arsenal have already started their push to sign one of the Bundesliga’s standout wingers this season in Diaby.

The report claims that the move depends on whether Arsenal will be able to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

Leverkusen are initially demanding €100 million (£84.4m) for Diaby but it’s understood that the German club would accept a figure closer to €75m (£63.3m).

The 22-year-old has been in sublime form on the left side of Leverkusen’s attack this season with 12 goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga, plus another four goals and two assists in the Europa League.

West Ham and Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for Diaby, who received his first senior cap for France last August.

When asked about the prospect of potentially leaving Leverkusen this summer, Diaby told Le Parisien in March: ‘Of course I’m thinking about it, but not too much yet.

‘I continue to focus on the rest of the season. For the moment, that is my only concern.

‘The goal is to qualify for the Champions League with Bayer. I love playing in games with pressure.

‘It’s in these moments that you see if a player is physically and mentally present.’
