Dylan Ehler

Two years ago Friday, 3-year-old Dylan Ehler was playing outside his grandmother’s home on Truro, Canada. And in a flash, he was gone.

“As far as we know, her dog was involved,” Truro Police Service Chief Dave MacNeil said at the time. “She may have turned around to tie the dog or do something with the dog and she turned around and he had left  — it was just that quick.”

Searchers combed the area near the grandmother’s house, as CrimeOnline previously reported, eventually finding the boy’s blue rubber boots in nearby Lepper Brook, which MacNeil described as “a quick-moving brook.”

“The water is very high there this time of year and it’s moving fairly quickly,” he said. “Firefighters did go into the river, probably chest-height, and they were searching the river.”

The river MacNeil referred to is the Salmon River, which runs a few hundred yards from where Dylan was last seen. Lepper Brook empties into it.

Police believe that’s what happened — that Dylan slipped into the brook and was washed away. But his family isn’t so sure.

“We love you Dylan Ehler missing since May 6th 2020 possible drowning possible kidnapping let’s bring Dylan home,” his father, Jason Ehler, posted on Facebook on Friday. He also posted a video tribute to his son:

Truro Police Services haven’t given up either. On Friday, they posted photos of the clothing Dylan was wearing on the day he disappeared and asked anyone with information to call.
