Wahlberg has since filmed a video in which he says he is looking forward to visiting Auckland and meeting everyone in person in the coming months.

‘We started with just one Wahlburgers in Boston has now grown to include Canada, Europe, Australia, and now, more importantly, New Zealand,’ he says in the clip.

‘Thank you again for having us. I cannot wait to see everybody. Happy Mother’s Day to all and go All Blacks.’

The restaurant will be owned and operated by Sam Mustaca (right) who have built United Cinemas into Australia's largest independent, family-owned owned cinema chain.

‘We had been following the concept for years and with its natural ties to the entertainment industry, bringing Wahlburgers into the experience at United Cinemas just seemed like a perfect fit,’ Sam Mustaca CEO of United Cinemas New Zealand and WBIP said.

‘The first Wahlburgers will be in Auckland’s CBD and we plan to expand to other NZ locations.

‘With really great food, beers, and a fun atmosphere, we think it’s going to be a big hit.’

The news comes just five months after Mark opened his first Sydney restaurant located in Sydney’s Circular Quay, also run by the Mustaca family.
