Ohio Supreme Court delays execution date has been pushed back from November 16, 2023, to January 13, 2027, granting him a three-year stay of execution.

In a riot that happened in 1993 at Southern Ohio Correctional Institution, Keith LaMar was responsible for the deaths of five inmates. Keith LaMar was then convicted for aggravated murder in 1995.

Keith LaMar’s defense team has contended that the sole evidence against Keith LaMar was provided by Keith LaMar’s fellow prisoners and was not verified by authorities. Additionally, they assert that evidence supporting Keith Lamar’s innocence was intentionally concealed.

Keith LaMar has been spared from the execution punishment due to a temporary halt on penalties in the state.

The Ohio State Governor, Mike DeWine has explained that the state is currently unable to acquire drugs for the lethal injection that will be used on Keith Lamar, from pharmaceutical companies, leading to the decision to delay Keith LaMar’s execution date.

In a report, DPIC stated that pharmaceutical companies are refusing to sell drugs to Ohio if the usage of the drug is for execution. They also threatened to refuse selling medicines to state agencies who uses their drugs to mete out capital punishments on death row patients.

It is yet to know if the Ohio state will continue issuing death penalty in the future as a new bill is introduced to the state with the intent to abolish death penalty.
