Lauren James has spoken out following her sending off in England’s Women’s World Cup win over Nigeria on Monday that saw her shown a red card for stamping on Michelle Alozie.
Responding to a Twitter post by the Nigerian, James said: ‘All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened.
‘Also, for our England fans and my team-mates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience.
The 21-year-old attacker was replying to Alozie’s social media post where she asked for people to forgive the England ace who is facing a nervous wait to find out how many matches she will miss.
Alozie tweeted: ‘Abeg, rest. we are playing on the world’s stage.

‘This game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. all respect for Lauren James.’
James was seen in public for the first time since the incident after the Lionesses touched down at Sydney Airport on Monday and up to now has remained silent on the incident.
England players and manager Sarina Wiegman have rallied around her in a bid to protect the England star from intense scrutiny, despite a red card being the correct decision.
James, the younger sister of Chelsea and England defender Reece James, previously explained before the prestigious tournament got underway in Australia and New Zealand that she hoped to use the World Cup as a platform to boost her footballing identity.
However, she could now see her World Cup dream prematurely ended as FIFA prepare to decide on whether to upgrade her one game ban to a three match ban that would rule her out of the rest of England’s campaign.
