Pakistani police are hunting the father of a 10-year-old girl who was found dead inside her family home south of London.

Police in London discovered Sara Sharif’s body in the Surrey home just after her father, Urfan Sharif, made a 999 telephone call to them from Pakistan, where he had rushed to with others on a flight the day before.

Detective Sergeant Mark Chapman, of Surrey Police, said Sharif, aged 41, his partner Beinash Batool, 29, and his brother Faisal Malik, 28, were all now in Pakistan and are wanted for questioning.

All three adults boarded a plane bound for Islamabad the day before Sara was found dead.

The trio took five children, aged from one to 13, with them.

A local travel agent told the BBC he was contacted by someone known to Sara around 10pm the day before the girl’s body was found, wanting plane tickets for three adults and five children.

Tickets to Islamabad costing more than $10,000 were booked on August 9, hours before Sara’s body was found alone.

An autopsy didn’t establish a cause of death but the results did show Sara had suffered “multiple and extensive injuries, which are likely to have been caused over a sustained and extended period of time”.

Sara’s mother Olga Sharif split from her husband in 2017 and she told The Sun newspaper she had only seen Sara twice in that time.

Police told her Sara was dead in a phone call, she said.

“My life will never be the same again. Sara should be with me right now. She was too young. Sara was an amazing child,” she said.

Mrs Sharif said she planned to bury her daughter in her native Poland, where she has been intending to move back to, once police complete their investigations.

Mrs Sharif also has a son, now aged 13, with her ex. She had fought and lost a custody battle for both children, she said.

It was confirmed today that Sara was previously known to UK authorities, but it is so far not clear for what reasons.

Sharif’s family home in Pakistan is located in Jhelum, Punjab, around 135 kilometres from the capital, Islamabad.

Officer Imran Ahmed said police found evidence that Sharif briefly returned to Jhelum, before leaving and going into hiding.

Another officer in Jhelum, Nisar Ahmed, said he and his men went to Sharif’s native village of Kari but learned the family left around 20 years ago and never returned.

There is no formal extradition treaty between the UK and Pakistan.

UK police said they were working with international agencies, including Interpol, the National Crime Agency and the UK Foreign Office to progress their enquiries with Pakistani authorities.
