Tottenham made a verbal offer of up to £40million including add-ons for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The bid is £5m short of Chelsea’s valuation of £45m for the 23-year-old.

As Mail Sport reported yesterday, the England international is weighing up his future after Chelsea brought in Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia for their midfield.

Despite the influx of talent at the Blues this summer, Mauricio Pochettino has started the academy graduate in all three of the club’s Premier League fixtures so far this season.

Tottenham need to offload players first before they are likely to bid and their immediate focus is on signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest amid competition from Brentford.

However, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele are likely to depart today.

Spurs have a bid from Fulham on the table for Hojbjerg plus loan offers from Atletico Madrid and Galatasaray. Ndombele has interest from Inter Milan.

Tottenham have also had a £20million offer for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly rejected.

The 24-year-old is out of contract next summer and is likely to see out his deal ahead of exploring options abroad.
