Evan Ferguson’s first Premier League hattrick secured an excellent 3-1 win for Brighton at home to Newcastle.

The 18-year-old Irish striker Ferguson opened the scoring for the seagulls after England goalkeeper Nick Pope spilled a powerful Billy Gilmour effort right into his path.

Brighton pressed the advantage well and Ferguson provided a second midway through the second half with a lovely 25-yard curling effort into the bottom corner.

The 29-year-old looked as though he had a point to prove a he fired an early shot narrowly wide before forcing Newcastle keeper Nick Pope into a hurried save.
