England have tasted glory with their over 50s and 60s walking football teams triumphing at the first edition of the World Nations Cup.

The tournament was held over three days at St George’s Park, the Football Association’s national football centre.

A total of 19 nations competed at the World Nations Cup across the two age groups.

The Three Lions side beat the Basque Country 2-1 in the last eight, before edging Spain 1-0 to reach the final.

England claimed the inaugural title after winning 2-1 on penalties against the Czech Republic, following a 1-1 draw.

The feat was matched by England’s over 60s team, who brushed aside their opponents on route to World Nations Cup trophy.

England earned five consecutive wins in the group stage, scoring 31 goals and conceded just once.

A 3-0 win over a Caribbean squad in the quarter-finals followed, before a convincing 8-2 victory against Canada in the last four.

The over 60s crown was sealed by a dominant 3-0 win over rivals France in the final.

The tournament, which will be held every two years, was run by the Federation of International Walking Football Associations.

Teams contested 40 minute matches over two halves.

Walking football prohibits players from running, jogging or heading, with the sport having reduced physical contact.
