Eric Morgan, a Chicago man charged in connection with the murder of police officer Ella French, has been offered a plea deal with a maximum prison sentence of seven years.

Police officer Ella French was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop in August 2021, while another officer, Carlos Yanez, was wounded but survived.

Eric is accused of handling the murder weapon by used his brother Emonte in killing police officer Ella French.

Eric’s attorney said he could face 23 years in prison if he does not accept the plea deal.

The shooting was the first fatal shooting of a Chicago officer under Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s tenure and police officer Ella French is the first female officer fatally shot in 33 years.

The fatal shooting happened after the Morgan brothers were driving with expired license plates and were pulled over by police.

One of the passengers in the vehicle opened fire during the stop, leading to police officer Ella French and one other being shot.

According to Yahoo News, the plea deal does not affect the legal situation of Eric Morgan’s brother, Emonte Morgan, who is facing first-degree murder charges and other offenses for shooting police officer Ella French multiple times.

Emonte Morgan is scheduled to appear in court soon, while Eric Morgan is expected to enter a guilty plea on October 12, Yahoo News added.
