Andy Gray has slammed Manchester United for celebrating their win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s side looked set for their third connective home defeat when Mathias Jensen put the Bees ahead inside 26 minutes.

But substitute Scott McTominay struck a brace in injury-time to spare United’s blushes and ease the pressure on Ten Hag.

Speaking on beINSPORTS, the former striker said: ‘That (getting away with one) has been the nature of the season. Back to the opening day at Wolves when they just got over the line, back to when they beat Forest from two down, Brentford – just got over the line’.

‘These are not teams challenging for the title. These are teams at the other end of the table.

‘This is where United are. They’re celebrating like this (after) beating Brentford 2-1 at home. I hope that is relief more than anything. I hope it’s relief because that is what it should be.

‘A team under Alex Ferguson doing that, Fergie would have been relieved. He would have gone in the dressing room and I bet he would have a go. at every one of them for just winning.’

Last weekend’s home defeat by Crystal Palace condemned United to their worst start to a season in 34 years.

That was then followed by a dismal loss to Galatasaray in midweek which has put Ten Hag’s side bottom of their Champions League group.

Despite the dramatic win over Brentford, United remain 10th in the Premier League. The Red Devils will return to action against Sheffield United after the international break.
