Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refused to be drawn into discussion over another VAR controversy after Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross escaped a red card in the 2-2 draw on Sunday.

Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards said the Brighton midfielder should have been sent off for his foul on Dominik Szoboszlai.

Gross gave away a penalty in the for pulling back the Hungarian inside the box area when he was the last man.

Mohamed Salah scored from the resulting spot-kick just before half-time in a quickfire double that saw Liverpool take the lead.

Afterwards Klopp said: ‘I don’t know. I don’t know, I think it the foul is inside the box for a penalty it’s a yellow card but if it’s outside it could be red.

‘I don’t know, don’t talk to me about rules. I take what I get.

‘Did anybody say he should have been sent off? I trust an expert would know, I don’t know.’

The decision may add to the frustration that remains following last weekend’s disallowed Luis Diaz goal in the defeat by Tottenham Hotspur, which led Klopp to controversially call for the game to be replayed.

Brighton grabbed a deserved equaliser in the 78th minute.

Solly March’s whipped free-kick from the left had pace and bend, and as Robertson missed it at the near post it was met first time by Dunk, who thumped home on the volley

Klopp did not feel his team had put down a marker by earning a point at in-form Brighton after losing on their previous two visits to the Amex.

He added: ‘You cannot compare the Brighton games because think generally we are in a good moment.

‘Today we had a chance and we didn’t grab it which is disappointing. We don’t feel great, we are not going to sit here and think great finally a point at Brighton, after losing twice.

‘We have big expectations for ourselves. I’ve had a talk and now we can prepare for when we are back for the next important period. Things are ok, first and foremost the important thing the guys get back (from int duty) fit and healthy and then we’ll fight for everything, today I saw that, I saw fighting.

‘Just in decisive moments we have to play more football and in other decisive moments, we have to be clearer defensively. In these two areas we were only 80% not 100% and they cost us the result.’
