Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has insisted his ‘amazing’ side had to ‘try everything’ in order to beat Manchester City 1-0, for the first time in the league since December 2015.

The Brazilian striker started the clash at the Emirates, with national teammate Gabriel Martinelli scoring the winner off the bench.

Martinelli struck with four minutes of normal time remaining, a curling effort that pinged off Nathan Ake’s forehead to wrong-footed Ederson in goal.

After the game Jesus insisted: ‘Everyone knows how it is to play against them, even when they play away. It’s our home. We had to try everything. We had to fight with the ball. I’m very happy for Gabi.

‘He (Martinelli) came on and helped us. That showed how strong our team is. Congrats to everyone. It’s not easy playing three games in a week, all 90 minutes. I did it.

‘I’m back with my fitness, fighting, running, helping the team. Today I could run and help them. The whole team, they are amazing.

The 26-year-old was joined by Martinelli in the post-match interview, with the latter talking about the team’s increased confidence after the win.

Martinelli maintained: ‘I think everyone has played a part in this victory. I scored the goal but it was the whole team, the staff, and the fans as well, it was everyone. As I said, I’m happy and the team is happy as well.

‘It gives us more confidence. We know our potential and we know how tough it is to play against them. Today we beat them and it gives us more confidence to carry on.’
