The never-ending ‘futbol vs. football’ debate has been brought to light once more – thanks to Taylor Swift.
USWNT legend and San Diego Wave FC star Alex Morgan has extended an invite for 12-time Grammy-winning pop star Swift to attend a ‘real football game.’
In a press conference with her NWSL side, Morgan, 34, hit two birds with one stone by inviting Swift to a game and taking a jab at American football.
‘Exactly,’ Morgan’s teammate Jaedyn Shaw said in agreement.

Alex Morgan has 121 goals for the USWNT and currently plays for San Diego Wave in the NWSL

Taylor Swift’s presence at Chiefs games this season has boosted viewership for the NFL

Swift announced Morgan’s spot in the USWNT roster for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup
To say that Swift attending an NWSL game would benefit the league is an understatement.
Swift’s effect on expanding the sports audience has been on full display since September. After her relationship with Travis Kelce went public, the Kansas City Chiefs and NFL saw massive spikes in viewership and social media following.
Swift has been present at three Chiefs games to support Kelce so far this season. According to Averagebeing’s data, the Chiefs and the NFL collectively gain an average of 31,276 new followers on Instagram with each Swift appearance.
The Chiefs’ showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4 also amassed an average of 27 million views from a spike in female viewers waiting for Swift’s cameo.
As for Kelce, Averagebeing’s data states that the Chiefs tight end and Swift’s new romance gains an average of 124,090 new followers when Swift cheers him on at his games.
Swift memorably announced Morgan’s inclusion in the USWNT roster in a video that featured the likes of US President Joe Biden, Shaquille O’Neal, and Lil Wayne ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
After winning the tournament in 2015, Swift invited the USWNT up on stage during a performance in MetLife Stadium. The pop star lifted the World Cup trophy in front of the sold-out crowd as the three-time World Cup winners celebrated on stage.
NWSL and Wave fans can at least hope that with their existing relationship, Swift takes Morgan up on the invite and attends a game in the future.
