WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Authorities in Westminster arrested a suspect accused of assaulting a deputy with a knife after a six-hour standoff Friday.

Westminster Police Department Sgt. Ray Esslinger said the situation began around 12:45 p.m., when the Adams County Sheriff’s Office called the police department for assistance at an incident. Esslinger said the sheriff’s office had been serving an eviction notice at The Brodie apartments, near W. 121st Avenue and N. Zuni Street, when a woman lunged at a deputy with a knife and assaulted him.

The deputy, who is with Adams County, did not have life-threatening injuries, police said. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Westminster police, along with SWAT and negotiators, arrived at the scene and tried to contact the suspect, Esslinger said. They also evacuated the building and sent a Lookout Alert at 2:16 p.m.

At 6:05 p.m., Westminster police said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the suspect was in custody. Police said she was transported to a local hospital with self-inflicted injuries.

An Westminster police officer was injured during the arrest, according to the department. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
