Joelinton was sent off for Brazil on Tuesday night in their World Cup qualifier vs. Argentina as he shoved Rodrigo De Paul in the chest.

The two were tussling in the second half when Joelinton pushed his opponent – with De Paul going down in dramatic fashion as he grabbed his face.

While the Newcastle midfielder didn’t appear to make contact with De Paul’s face, he was nonetheless sent off in the 81st minute at the Maracana.

Before the match, rival supporters began fighting with one another before clashing with Brazilian police, forcing kickoff to be delayed by 30 minutes.

The melee turned extremely violent as police struck fans with their batons, with at least one supporter forced to leave the stadium due to bleeding in his head.

Argentina goalkeeper Dibu Martinez even leapt towards the stands to try and grab one of the batons during the chaotic scenes.

Eventually, the game kicked off, with the sides combing for 22 fouls in a scrappy first half.

Nicolas Otamendi headed in the lone goal of the match in the 63rd minute as Argentina secured a 1-0 win.

La Albiceleste are top of South American qualifying with 15 points, while Brazil have just seven points through six games.
