Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as a contender for the Nottingham Forest job if Steve Cooper pays for poor recent results with his job.

The Portuguese is out of work after leaving Saudi club Al-Ittihad earlier this year. He had a hugely successful spell at Wolves from 2017-21, leading the club from the Championship to consecutive seventh placed finishes and the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2020.

But he lasted barely four months at Tottenham after taking the job in summer 2021. Nuno is a client of Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes and has also managed FC Porto and Valencia.

Former Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner, who led the Germans to the Europa League in 2022, is also believed to have been sounded out.

Meanwhile, Forest have suffered a further blow with defender Felipe set for a significant spell on the sidelines.

The Brazilian has been limited to three appearances this season and is believed to have a damaged hamstring which is likely to rule him out for the Christmas programme and possibly through January as well.

Forest are fighting to form after winning only one of their last 13 matches which has seen them slide into the relegation battle.

Their next match is at home to Bournemouth on Saturday.
