Birmingham City defender Lee Buchanan was reportedly rushed to hospital after a clash of heads in the Blues Championship fixture against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

The 22-year-old was involved in a collision with Argyle centre-back Julio Pleguezuelo in the sixth minute of the clash at Home Park.

Buchanan also appeared to collide with his teammate Jay Stansfield as he went to ground before medical staff attended to him on the pitch.

The Midlands club sent a message of support to the England U21 international, writing on social media: ‘We are all with you, Lee.’

Plymouth, who saw manager Steven Schumacher depart for Stoke City in the week, had the game swing in their favour after Krystian Bielik was shown a red card shortly after the break.

However, Birmingham restored their two goal lead through Juninho Bacuna but they were ultimately pegged back as first Ben Waine and then Morgan Whittaker netted to restore parity.

The results leaves the sides in 17th and 18th place in the division respectively, with Argyle ahead by virtue of their superior goal difference.
