Getafe striker Borja Mayoral has spoken out following reports linking him with a move to the Premier League in January.

Earlier this week Arsenal were said to have made a £22million move for the 26-year-old as Mikel Arteta’s hunt for offensive reinforcements to bolster his side’s title bid continues.

Having emerged from Real Madrid’s academy, Mayoral joined Getafe in 2022 after struggling to break into the starting XI with Los Blancos.

Brentford and Fulham are also said to be monitoring the in-form forward, but Mayoral downplayed any potential move to the Premier League.

‘It is news that has surprised me too,’ Mayoral said, Estadio Deportivo report.

‘I have not spoken with the club or with my representative. I am very focused on Getafe, on a day-to-day basis.’

The same publication also claims that Getafe president Angel Torres is unwilling to listen to offers for his star striker, noting that Mayoral has a £51m release clause in his contract.

Meanwhile Ivan Toney remains a target for the Gunners, with the Brentford forward’s eight-month ban for breaching betting rules set to expire next week, meaning he will be available for Thomas Frank’s side when they host Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Arteta’s interest in the England international has been curtailed however, after Brentford slapped a £100m price-tag on the prize asset.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, but a recent contract extension in Naples has likely made any possible move prohibitively expensive for the Gunners.
