How has the Firefighter Jacob Gregoire Settlement been going on? The guy was arrested by CHP in 2018, for which he filed a lawsuit.
The California Highway Patrol team has seen its fair share of mishaps and controversies over the years.
However, none could have continued to haunt the department even after a decade, as in the case of California Firefighter Jacob Gregoire.
Gregoire, who was from Chula Vista Fire Department, had a clean profile until he was cuffed and detained on February 4, 2014.
Police Officer Sergio Flores arrested Jacob while the latter was retrieving a gurney.
As he asked to communicate with the captain, Flores cuffed Jacob and took him to the police station.
The bizarre situation created quite a stir at that time, with many questioning the audacity of a cop to arrest a civilian without any valid reason.
Firefighter Jacob Gregoire Settlement: Filed A Lawsuit Against CHP
As mentioned earlier, Jacob was arrested on 4th February 2014 at the scene of a rollover on Interstate 805 of Telegraph Canyon Road. A car had flipped over a temporary concrete divider wall alongside the fast lane.
The Chula Vista Fire Department’s firefighter drove up in a fire engine, with a captain and firefighter on board to the scene.
There, he reportedly parked behind an ambulance to protect any medical personnel and patients from passing traffic.
The scene also included the presence of two CHP cars and another fire engine. Later, the CHP officers asked for the second fire engine to go as they weren’t needed.
At that time, Gregoire was unloading a gurney when suddenly he was stopped by Sergio Flores, who told him to drive away or face arrest.
Long story short, Jacob was handcuffed and taken to the police station, where he was kept for half an hour before being released.
Although he was released within a matter of minutes, Jacob sued and filed a lawsuit against the California Highway Patrol for violating his civil rights.
Instead of seeking compensation, the firefighter’s motive behind the lawsuit was to ask for a change in how CHP acknowledges firefighter personnel during the crash scenes.
Has Firefighter Jacob Gregoire Case Been Dismissed? Compensation Details
As the incident happened in 2014, many people are still searching for whether Jacob got his rightful justice or whether he won the lawsuit against the CHP.
If so, how much was Jacob Gregoire compensated? Also, what is the state of the case? Has it been dismissed?
As per one source, the Chula fire personnel’s case was terminated on June 14, 2018, after two years of filing on February 26, 2016.
He filed a civil rights violations case against the CHP in the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The case went on for nearly four years before being settled in 2018.
As per the reports, Jacob has been compensated by the CHP. However, the amount of fees has not been disclosed.
Following the case, Jacob Gregoire has maintained a low-key profile away from the spotlight. He is likely continuing his job as a firefighter at the Chula Vista Fire Department.
