New York City FC have loaned midfielder Nicolas Acevedo to Brazilian side Bahia for the 2024 MLS season.

Acevedo returns to Bahia as he spent the 2023 campaign on loan with the South American side, where he managed two assists in 54 appearances.

The move for the 24-year-old also contains “purchase option at the end of the 2024 season, along with an obligation to buy if certain performance based goals are met,” per a club release.

Acevedo originally joined NYC in March of 2020 from Liverpool FC – no, not that Liverpool in the Premier League, the Liverpool from the Uruguayan first division. Acevedo saw lots of success as a Blue, lifting an MLS Cup and Campeones Cup with the Eastern Conference team.

The former Uruguay youth international suited up 82 times for NYCFC and could very well be on his way to joining Bahia on a permanent basis should he find his form again after recovering from his ACL injury he suffered last term.

NYCFC begin their 2024 MLS season on February 24 against Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium, aiming to return to MLS Cup playoffs action after missing out in 2023.
