Marcus Rashford will miss Manchester United’s FA Cup trip to Newport County on Sunday, saying the England international is unavailable due to illness.

The 26-year-old was spotted in a Belfast nightclub hours before missing training with Man Utd on Friday. The Athletic now report Rashford has not been included in the travelling squad to take on Welsh outfit Newport.

The club asserted that Rashford has been sick in recent days, with manager Erik ten Hag insisting he and centre-back Jonny Evans were doubts for the fifth round game.

“This morning, Rashford was ill and [Jonny] Evans was ill so we have to see how they recover,” he said.

Rashford received disciplinary action earlier this season back in November having been spotted in a nightclub shortly after the Red Devils’ 3-0 defeat to local rivals Manchester City.

The forward has also been criticised for a drop in form amid Man Utd’s struggles in Ten Hag’s second season, having struck four times in the Premier League so far in 2023/24.

Ten Hag has the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony to feature in wide areas in Rashford’s absence, while striker Rasmus Hojlund is hoping to build on a run of two goals and an assist in his last three games.

There is hope Casemiro could make his first United appearance since November, while Lisandro Martinez may also get minutes having featured as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham two weeks ago.
