A man dressed up as a UPS driver and carrying a fake package barged into a home and shot three people to death, according to authorities.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. Friday in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that it received an “open-line” 911 call with “sounds of a disturbance in the background.” When officers arrived they found three people dead: Shannon Patricia Jungwirth, 42, her son Jorge Alexander Reyes-Jungwirth, 20, and her husband Mario Alberto Trejo Estrada, 39.
Deputies shortly after took 37-year-old Alonzo Pierre Mingo into custody on three counts of second-degree murder.
A probable cause arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime says home surveillance video showed Mingo, dressed in the UPS outfit, and two other people leave his car while carrying a cardboard box as if he were making a delivery. The video reportedly showed Mingo leading a man at gunpoint into a bedroom with Jungwirth and two kids under the age of 5 inside. Cops said Mingo demanded money from the man and woman before taking them and the children out of the room. He took Jungwirth back into the bedroom where he reportedly shot her in the head.
One of the children ran into the room “crying hysterically,” the affidavit reportedly said. Neither child was hurt.
Deputies did not detail how Reyes-Jungwirth and Estrada were killed in the affidavit. The whole ordeal lasted seven minutes, police said.
Cops arrested Mingo in his car several hours later. They recovered the UPS shirt and vest Mingo allegedly used in the homicide along with the cardboard box he was seen on video carrying up to the house.
UPS spokesperson Karen Tomaszewski Hill told The Associated Press Mingo was a seasonal employee “who only worked for the company for a short time” until mid-January.
Local NBC affiliate KARE, citing search warrant requests, reported Estrada was selling drugs out of the home and sending money back to relatives in Mexico. Deputies also allegedly found a storage unit belonging to Estrada that had magic mushrooms, marijuana, meth and a “white powder” inside.
A judge on Monday set Mingo’s bond at $5 million. He is scheduled to have another court hearing on Feb. 9.
