The captaincy race is a difficult one in FPL Gameweek 22.

There is a distinct lack of options with the top two performers in the game unavailable, while favourite Erling Haaland is still flagged with a foot injury. So who are the best picks for this midweek round of games?

With the help of Fantasy Football Hub’s powerful AI Points Predictions tool, here are the top candidates for captaincy in FPL Gameweek 22.

Jarrod Bowen

Jarrod Bowen leads the AI predictions for points with a favourable home game against Bournemouth, who have conceded seven goals in their last two games. The England forward is having another remarkable Premier League season, already on double digits for goals with 11.

Bowen has produced two goals and one assist in the last five gameweeks and found himself on the scoresheet the last time these two sides met in Gameweek 1. The Hammers may also be bolstered by the return of Mohammed Kudus from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka is the most owned player in the game but disappointed his six million managers by failing to register an attacking return in the 5-0 win against Crystal Palace last time out. Saka has just one attacking return in his last six games.

However, his underlying numbers remain encouraging, ranking fourth among all players for shots in the last four gameweeks with 16 and also fourth for key passes with 12. He scored in the reverse fixture against Nottingham Forest and always has the potential for a big haul.

Phil Foden

Manchester City entertain promoted Burnley at the Etihad this week in a game where Phil Foden could be a key asset while Haaland continues to regain fitness following his foot injury.

Foden has been a permanent feature in Manchester City’s squad in the last four gameweeks, registering four attacking returns in this time. The return of Kevin De Bruyne from injury could see Foden become less influential as a winger, which provides uncertainty for long-term ownership.
