Wednesday has been cast as the traditional ‘Hump Day’ of the working week since the 1950s but it serves as a time of mini-celebration in Sweden.

A Nordic tradition ensures that Wednesday also goes by Lillordag – ‘Little Saturday’ – a moment to briefly relax halfway through the long wait until the weekend. The Premier League’s fixture computer has served up a trio of intriguing matches to dive into during this hiatus.

There is the reunion of familiar faces, a London derby and the most high-profile match of the entire midweek round of fixtures to enjoy tonight.

Here’s everything you need to know about the games this Lillordag.

Burnley have enjoyed – or endured, depending on who you ask – a 19-day break since a controversial 1-1 draw with Luton Town last time out. Vincent Kompany wasn’t entirely convinced the time off would have a positive impact. “The players had the chance to reset a little bit and, I hope, recharge what they need to,” he mused. “Hopefully they’ll benefit from this period.”

No amount of rest will ensure that Burnley travel to the Etihad Stadium as anything other than rank outsiders. The Clarets have lost their last six away games against Manchester City by an aggregate score of 28-0.

The last time Burnley earned a win against City at any venue, Kompany was draped in Sky Blue playing for the losing side.

Ange Postecoglou’s reign at Tottenham Hotspur began with a 2-2 draw against Brentford back in August. It only took 11 minutes for the Australian’s new adoring public to start singing his name.

Ivan Toney spent much of his long-awaited return from a gambling ban being serenaded by the Brentford support. The first match of Toney’s eight-month suspension was a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last May. Brentford earned a 3-1 victory on that sunny afternoon without their talisman but both sides, particularly the hosts, have changed dramatically since then.

Liverpool and Chelsea are separated by almost half the division and 17 Premier League points but there has been nothing to split the two clubs on the pitch of late. The last seven matches between these English giants have all ended in draws – the longest such sequence in top-flight history.

Mauricio Pochettino reassuringly confirmed that his side will try to break that streak at Anfield. “I don’t know what the people are thinking but for us, we want to win,” the Chelsea boss insisted. “I want to win.” The Blues have not won a Premier League game away to Liverpool in front of fans since Jose Mourinho was manager in 2014.
