Blackburn have announced John Eustace as their new head coach after Jon Dahl Tomasson departed the club by mutual consent.

A statement on Friday confirmed that both Tomasson and his assistant Remy Reijnierse had left the club with immediate effect.

Later that day the club announced John Eustace had been appointed to replace the Dane, with the 44-year-old signing a two-and-a-half-year deal at Ewood Park.

‘I am excited for this new challenge in my career and can’t wait to get started.

‘I am looking forward to being at Ewood Park tomorrow and meeting the supporters, who can play a big part for us between now and the end of the season.

‘I will give my all to ensure the fans have a team they can be proud of and, together, I hope we can quickly start climbing the table.’

Mail Sport previously reported that Eustace had agreed a deal to take over at the Lancashire club, marking his return to the dugout after being sacked by Birmingham in October.

Eustace had guided the Blues to sixth in the Championship before being controversially replaced by Wayne Rooney.

His appointment marks the end of Tomasson’s first foray into English football management.

Tomasson arrived at Blackburn in June 2022, and led the club to seventh in his first term in charge, with the club narrowly missing out on the play-offs on goal difference.

However, after a mixed start to the current campaign, a miserable run has seen the club secure one league win since November and they currently sit just five points above the relegation zone.
