JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 27-year-old man was arrested on manslaughter charges in connection with a shooting death of a 16-year-old on Friday in the New Town area, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday.
Damon Wilson, 27, was arrested Friday night after 16-year-old Layla D. Johnson was pronounced dead inside a New Town residence from a single gunshot wound.
Officers responded to the 1500 block of West 2nd Street in reference to a death investigation at approximately 11:20 a.m. Friday.
Four people who were inside the residence at the time of the shooting were detained at the scene.
JSO said after a review of on-scene evidence and interviews, investigators “quickly” identified Wilson as a suspect.
Wilson was detained, questioned and arrested on charges of manslaughter in connection with Johnson’s death.
He is being held in Duval County Jail on a more than $500,000 bond and is set to be back in court on March 18 at 9 a.m.
