According to former Liverpool and Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant, Chelsea icon John Terry finds himself in fourth place among the greatest Premier League centre-backs of all time, with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk surpassing him.

Pennant even shared a lighthearted anecdote about giving Terry a tough time during their playing days.

On a recent TalkSport YouTube show, Pennant ranked the best Premier League centre-backs.

‘I’ll take my Liverpool hat off and say Rio is No.1, Virgil No.2, Kompany No.3 and then, out of them, John Terry last’ Pennant revealed on the show.

Virgil Van Dijk captains Liverpool

Vincent Kompany and Virgil Van Dijk both made the list of the Premier League’s best centre-backs of all time

Winning five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three EFL Cups, a Champions League, and a Europa League – Terry’s honours stretch to individual ones too.

Having been named Chelsea Player of the Year twice, he also made it to the PFA Team of the Year an incredible five times, as well five appearances in the FIFPro World XI.

Though Pennant disagreed, stating that he turned Terry ‘inside out’.

‘I’ve seen John Terry get turned inside-out, so I would prefer to play against him. I did it for Leeds, I scored against him, so… have some of that!’ He joked.

Yet, former England teammate Rio Ferdinand recently sparked a discussion by listing 12 current players deserving of the ‘world-class’ label, reigniting debates among fans about their favourite club legends and current stars.

Pennant affirmed Van Dijk’s place among the elite, placing him second on his list behind Ferdinand, followed by Vincent Kompany, and then Terry.
