A New Mexico man was convicted this week for murdering a young woman while she was playing Pokemon Go with her boyfriend.

On Thursday, Izaiah Andres Garcia, 23, was found guilty on all counts against him over the 2019 incident that culminated in the death of 21-year-old Cayla Campos. Jurors in a state district court convicted Garcia of murder in the first degree, depraved mind murder, shooting at a motor vehicle, armed robbery, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, tampering with evidence, child abuse, and conspiracy.

“I am extremely proud of the fact that we were able to secure justice for Cayla’s family,” New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez said in a press release celebrating the verdict against the now twice-convicted killer. “I also know that nothing we accomplished in the courtroom will ever heal their pain or replace the loss to our community.”
