Real Madrid plan to appeal the red card shown to Jude Bellingham during Saturday’s controversial 2-2 draw away at Valencia.

Los Blancos came from two goals down to secure a point at the Mestalla thanks to a brace from Vinicius Junior, before the evening descended into chaos at the final whistle.

Bellingham thought he had scored the winning goal deep into second-half stoppage time, but referee Jesus Gil Manzano blew the full-time whistle just before Brahim Diaz delivered the final cross.

The England midfielder was then sent off for his protests, with Gil Manzano’s report revealing he was not impressed with Bellingham’s ‘aggressive attitude’ and he repeatedly shouted ‘it’s a f*****g goal’ at him.

ESPN report Madrid will appeal Bellingham’s red card to La Liga in hope of having his one-match ban overturned. If unsuccessful, he will miss this Sunday’s visit of Celta Vigo.

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti defended Bellingham’s conduct in his post-match press conference, insisting it did not warrant a sending off.

“We were annoyed with Bellingham’s red card,” Ancelotti said. “He didn’t say any insults. He said in English ‘it’s a f*****g goal’, but he was just saying what we were all thinking. [The referee] allowed play to continue. I think he made a mistake. [Bellingham] was clear in what he said.

“He was quite vehement [in his reaction] but that’s normal, after what happened. It wasn’t an insult, not at all.”

Madrid and Bellingham return to action on Wednesday in the Champions League, taking on RB Leipzig back at the Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos take a one-goal lead into the second leg of their last-16 tie thanks to a stunning Brahim goal back in Germany last month.
