Maurizio Sarri has resigned from his position as manager of Lazio following a string of disappointing results in the Serie A.

Under Sarri, Lazio have suffered 12 defeats in the current campaign, with the latest coming after the game against Udinese.

The decision to step down comes after Lazio’s president and sporting director reportedly called the squad into a training camp to address their form ahead of the final 10 games of the season.

Despite still being in contention in the Coppa Italia, tensions were high after the team was booed off the pitch by their fans following the Udinese loss.

The Italian manager reportedly had a tense meeting with the squad after the Udinese defeat, where he sought to understand the reasons behind their poor performance.

The former Chelsea and Juventus manager leaves Lazio with immediate effect, with the club set to face Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-finals next month.
