Mohamed Salah will become the first Liverpool player to ever score at least 20 goals in seven consecutive seasons if he finds the back of the net against Manchester City on Sunday.

When he hit 20 last term, Salah joined the great Ian Rush as the only player to reach that milestone in six straight campaigns, and with 19 strikes to his name this time around, it is just a matter of time before he etches his name deeper into Anfield history.

Salah may be confident of reaching that milestone on Sunday thanks to his exceptional record against City. The Egyptian has 11 goals in 19 games against the Cityzens, including six in his last nine Premier League games against Pep Guardiola’s side.

“I just feel myself in that game, in the big games you just want to play and enjoy,” Salah told Sky Sports when asked why he has such a good record against City.

“I usually just have one defender against me, not two or three. The game is open and I just love the games where I can feel myself. The big players have to step up in the big games and show quality.

“[City] is an unbelievable team and an unbelievable coach. They have dominated the league for a few years and we have always fought with them. You go to the game and you just feel like it’s a six points game, not just a three points game.

“We have a good chance, we play at home, everybody will be excited, the atmosphere will be unbelievable as usual. We just have to focus on our game and try to win the game.”

Salah added: “They are decisive games, if I am being honest. There have been a few years where they have won the league by one point, so when we lost at the Etihad, that was a game where they won the league.

“It’s always a decisive game and I think if we win the next game, we have a great chance to win the title. But I think we have to focus on what we can do and we go from there. That [game on Sunday] is very important to give us a push that you want against Man City. The difference would then be three or four points against you, City and Arsenal. So it’s still a long way to go.”
