Manchester United supporters reacted with fury to their open midfield as Liverpool struck twice in three first half minutes in their FA Cup quarter-final tie at Old Trafford.

The hosts took an early lead through Scott McTominay, but were undone by Liverpool twice in quick succession before half-time.

Wataru Endo had the ball in the net before VAR ruled it out for offside, though it didn’t take Jurgen Klopp’s side long before Alexis Mac Allister made it 1-1.

The quick shift in performance did not go unnoticed by fans, with Man United supporters rushing to social media to highlight their sides dismal midfield display.

‘Look how open our midfield is lmfao’ one user posted, sharing an image of Dominik Szoboszlai blazing through an open midfield.

‘The funniest thing here is the referee got back but Man United’s midfield couldn’t’ another shared.

‘United’s best half of the season and yet their midfield still looks shocking off the ball. Only one with any intensity out of possession is an 18 year old. Embarrassing squad planning.’ a third added.

A fourth penned: ‘Whenever Liverpool show composure under pressure, they work the ball into a ridiculously large space between United’s midfield and defence. Haven’t done that enough, though, or matched things up in terms of intensity off the ball.

It had been a positive display from the Red Devils, who going into this game, had not lost a home FA Cup tie against Liverpool in more than 100 years.

But United’s defensive deficiencies against crept in during the final stages of the first-half.

The warning signs were there after Wataru Endo had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside on Salah.

They then collapsed with Mac Allister’s deflected effort and Salah’s goal on the rebound from an Andre Onana save putting the Reds ahead.

Man United fought back to level the quarter-final twice with Antony and Marcus Rashford on target, with the latter levelling in extra time after Harvey Elliot put Liverpool 3-2 up.

It set up a dramatic conclusion to the match with Amad Diallo scoring in the dying seconds of extra time to spark jubilant Man United celebrations, before being shown a second yellow card for his celebrations.
