Sadhguru Undergoes Suffers Severe Brain Bleed, Undergoes Surgery At Delhi Hospital

“Despite the severity of the pain, he continued with his normal daily schedule and social activities and even conducted the Maha Shivaratri function on March 8. He ignored all the pain and continued with all meetings,” Dr Suri said in the video.

Sadhguru Health Update: Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev underwent surgery at a Delhi hospital for a life-threatening brain bleed on Wednesday. Taking to social media, Isha Foundation released a statement saying he is recovering well, and improving “beyond expectations”.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sadhguru posted a video from the hospital bed for his followers and said, “The Apollo hospital neurosurgeons cut through my skull to try and find something but found nothing totally empty. So they gave up and patched it up. Here I am in Delhi with the patched-up skull but no damaged brain,” the 66-year-old guru said in a post on Instagram.

Sharing updates about her father’s health condition, spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s daughter Radhe Jaggi said in a post on Instagram that her father was recovering well. “For those asking, Sadhguru is doing well and recovering quickly,” Radhe said on Wednesday.

As per reports, the spiritual leader had been suffering from severe headaches for the last four weeks. “Despite the severity of the pain, he continued with his schedule and activities, and even conducted the nightlong MahaShivRatri celebrations on 8th March 2024,” the Isha Foundation added in its statement.

So what exactly went wrong and how dangerous are these internal bleeding inside the brain? Let’s take a deep dive into it.

Unusual Bleeding Inside The Brain: What Causes It?

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the celebrated spiritual leader and originator of the Isha Foundation, had recent surgery on his brain due to severe and potentially deadly swelling and bleeding inside his brain. This event underscores the severity of brain internal bleeding and its associated risks. Let’s understand the most common trigger factors behind this unusual health condition.

What causes internal bleeding in the brain? Brain internal bleeding, or intracranial haemorrhage, has various root causes. A leading cause is a traumatic brain injury, caused by a sharp or forceful knock to the head, which may cause brain blood vessels to burst and bleed within the skull. Other triggers include things like brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and certain drugs which elevate bleeding risks.

To understand the condition better, TheHealthSite.com spoke to Dr Ruchira Tripathi, Brain Surgeon, at Apollo Hospitals. “Brain swelling, known as cerebral edema, is a severe condition with potentially fatal consequences. It’s when the brain enlarges, causing pressure on its surroundings and leading to various complications. Brain swelling could emerge from a severe knock on the head or stem from a stroke or infection. In any situation, immediate medical response is essential when it comes to brain swellings,” said Dr Tripathi.

She further added, “Brain bleeding, also known as intracerebral haemorrhage. When a blood vessel within the brain ruptures, it causes internal bleeding which can lead to an abrupt increase in skull pressure and eventually result in gruelling headaches, neurological shortfalls, or unconsciousness. Like brain swelling, it is a medical urgency that necessitates instantaneous intervention”.

Brain Bleed: Symptoms You Must Never Ignore

How To Know If There Is Internal Brain Bleeding Happening? The symptoms associated with brain bleeding can widely differ, depending on the bleed’s location and severity. Usual symptoms that can tell you about this condition’s onset are:

  1. Chronic headaches
  2. Confusion
  3. One-sided body weakness
  4. Slow vision loss
  5. Loss of consciousness

Sometimes, individuals might suffer from nausea, vomiting, or seizures. To diagnose this condition, imaging tests like CT scans or MRIs are employed to pin-point the exact bleed site and scale.

How To Treat Brain Bleeding?

The primary treatment of brain internal bleeding depends greatly on the root cause and the bleed severity. Traumatic brain injury cases might need surgery to halt bleeding and alleviate brain pressure. In the cases of aneurysms or arteriovenous malformations, techniques such as embolization or surgical procedures become necessary to fix blood vessels and forestall future bleeding. The prognosis varies for patients depending on factors like the bleed’s extent, the speed of treatment, and the overall patient’s health.

How To Keep The Brain Healthy And Safe?

When we talk about preventative steps to help the brain stay safe from any sort of internal bleeding, one must take close note of the fact that it’s not entirely possible to prevent all cases of brain swelling and bleeding, there are measures to mitigate the risks. Some of the most common preventive measures include managing chronic health conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, following a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
