A 19-year-old man in Missouri is accused of killing another man on Easter Sunday, allegedly fatally shooting the 22-year-old victim in the chest during a botched robbery. Fernando Z. Hutchinson — who authorities say was wearing an “active shooter” sweatshirt at the time of the incident — was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in slaying of David C. Davis.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Osage Beach Police Department, officers at about 8:32 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, responded to a parking lot of Jetz Trampoline Park in the 1000 block of Passover Road in regards to an individual being shot.

Upon arriving at the location, first responders say they found an individual — later identified as Davis — suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the chest and began providing medical assistance. The victim was able to tell police that he did not know the identity of the person who shot him, per the affidavit.

In an interview with police, a man who was with Davis just prior to the shooting said that the two of them were “hanging out” in the parking lot inside of a car when an individual — later identified as Hutchinson — allegedly “came up to the vehicle, reached in, grabbed something, and ran away.”

The man said that he and Davis were chasing the man back toward a nearby apartment complex when they split up. He told police that he heard what sounded like several gunshots and a short while later, he saw Davis walk up to him and say, “He shot me.”

Surveillance footage from the area showed that after Hutchinson allegedly swiped something from Davis’ car and ran, three other individuals ran back to the same apartment complex and into unit 12. The shots then ring out and the individual who appears to be Hutchinson also heads for unit 12. Hutchinson allegedly fell while entering the apartment and a “distinct sound of a metallic object scraping against the cement can be heard on the tape, police wrote.
